Unambiguous identification of persons, objects, authors and senders is the basis on which all secure relationships are founded both in the real and the digital world. Increasing digitalization and automation of a huge range of procedures and processes has made the rendering of secure forms of identity more critical than ever before. This is now done in a wide variety of ways – from personal ID cards, signatures and digital signatures to access and credit cards or branding and water marks. Yet not all such systems are properly future-proof – their areas of application are limited, they are not fully protected against counterfeiting or manipulation and in general their terms and conditions of use are set by the issuing authority.
The partners in the Fraunhofer Secure Identity Innovation Cluster have taken as their aim to create a secure framework for the multifaceted, reciprocal relationships between people, objects and machines by providing verification and proof of their unique identity.
Two visions lie at the heart of the Cluster’s work: ‚Future ID-Card Systems’ and ‚Future ID-based Communication’.
